How the Florida Tomato Industry Went from Being One of the Most Repressive Employers to the Most Progressive?

Last November, the Florida Tomato Growers Exchange, a cooperative of agribusinesses that grow the vast majority of Florida tomatoes, signed the Fair Food agreement with the CIW. The CIW had been working since 1993 to improve the lot of farm workers. With a few pen strokes, the Florida tomato industry went from being one of the most repressive employers in the country (nine cases involving abject slavery in Florida fields have been prosecuted in the past 15 years) to being on the road to becoming the most progressive groups in the fruit and vegetable industry.

Just two years ago, it nearly came to war:

In 1994, three French cave explorers discovered hundreds of prehistoric paintings and engravings on the walls of the Chauvet Cave in southern France.

Carbon dating has since shown that the depictions of rhinoceroses, lions, cave bears, horses, bison, mammoths and other animals are between 30,000 and 32,000 years old.

That doesn't mean the ancient drawings are any less sophisticated than what artists create today, says filmmaker Werner Herzog.

Because it has nowhere yet been established the 1) there exists such a being as "God," or that if there were such, that it could "create" this gigantic universe. It assumes that which is to be proven. That's "begging the question" means.

It's always nice when such a perfect case drops into yer lap. The misappropriation of "beg the question" is one of those things that sets my teeth on edge.

And not in a nice way, either, when upon happening to glance at the local TV news, I saw a story about the NM Senate passing and sending to the House "for approval" (really? that simple?) that bill which--well, I'll spare you the graphic description, but it does UNSPEAKABLE things to teachers, students, and pretty much the whole IDEA of education.

So I scurried over to the machine to ask you, Dede--we were on first-name terms when I met you at (a mutual friend)'s CD 'party' at the Flying Star--how?

How did that happen? How COULD that happen?

I never expected to make any "progress" with that puta Tejana, that tea-bagging slag, in the Mansion; but I really didn't expect to LOSE, and to lose so much, so soon and, apparently, so easily.

You may or may not know--or care--that I hold a Ph.d. in education (LSU, '89), and that I am perhaps more familiar than most with the vicissitudes of the craft, having myself been a secondary teacher as well as a scholar, and being one in a family of teachers. This is such an egregious insult, and such a calculated indignity: I would under no circumstances ever council anyone to become a teacher under this regime; would indeed actively discourage volunteers--because the kinds of teachers we--and especially the kids-- need will suffer (and probably be expelled, eventually, anyway), and the kinds we don't want will thrive.

It's ALMOST enough to make an observant person suspect Foucaultian epistemic skulduggery, GB Shaw's aphorism about 'cynicism'--"The power of careful observation is often called cynicism by those who haven't got it."--notwithstanding.

If you would feel so inclined, I would be interested in what were the machinations and motivations which brought this about.

There is much hand-wringing and wailing in DC and in the circles of the Wise elsewhere about the catastrophic, sustained problem of unemployment in the USer work-place. The common reply to the matter among the ones most distraught about it (the left-punditry, unions, workers' representatives, Bernie Sanders, etc.) is to "call for" the resurrection of the USer industrial/manufacturing State of yore.

It was this capacity, in a war-desolated world, which permitted the erection of (relatively) the WEALTHIEST "middle-class" in history; the dissolution of which is the most important, most instructive story in the whole unfolding narrative of "decline and fall" that is unfolding (or is "crumbling" a better word) around us even as we speak.

So this makes me wonder if I'm missing something in the popular, mediated rhetoric and hurrah about creating jobs, and restoring Murkin manufacturing, and international competitiveness, an' all shit like that.

Here's the elephant turd in the soup tureen:

Where is the money gonna come from to RESTORE the infrasructure that the CorpoRats have spent the past 30 years up-rooting, off-shoring, destroying, dismantling, and selling off?

What makes anyone think the CorpoRats are gonna spend money to undo what they already MADE money destroying? They've sold off all the parts they could, long since. The bloody CorpoRats aren't gonna pony up. The USofA is a declining empire. It's expansive days are over. This market is topped out. The people are less important as consumers than hitherto. When you've sold out your citizenship for the convenience of being a consumer, and they close the fucking stores, what have you got left?

The Global corpoRats owe and claim no allegiance to the American nation, except as the military arm and instrument of their policies. They have NO incentive to invest in the failing CIVIC enterprise that is this country's heritage and legacy.

In fact, the CorpoRats have EVERY incentive to undermine, rebuke, and/or ignore it.

No CorpoRat encourages democracy. Democracy, especially in the work-place, is almost literally anathema to the CorpoRat mind, which is autocratic and authoritarian. They exhibit these proclivities every and in every way that they work to diminish or prevent the unions from exercising their power as the democratic representatives of the workers. CorpoRations are FEUDAL freeholds, and the Owners wish ONLY to preserve their OWN power over their vassals. Unions in the work-place, and democracy in the civic culture, are active opponents of those Medieval pretensions, and as such are subject to attack, destruction if possible.

The minions and lackeys of the CorpoRat State are even now busily engaged, where they have "won" the power to do so, in reversing 150 years of workers' gains. Some are resisting. I wish them success. But I don't trust USer cops NOT to shoot demonstrators, and I do not trust 'the people' NOT to turn against 'labor (or whatever makes them uneasy); but I am skeptical by nature, especially since I was witness to and involved in an incident at which the National Guard advanced on an unruly but NON-VIOLENT student demonstration with bared, fixed bayonets (UNM, May, 1970), while the good burghers of Albuquerque stood on the sidelines and spat on the students, and cheered when the Guard inflicted injuries; so I think my skepticism is earned.

Meta-Cogitating About Meta-Cognition

For some reason, in no small part stemming from conversations with my gal in NYC, Trish, of Menopausal Stoners and other venues, from her nest in the Upper West Side, from whither she ventures out to teach neo-nates how to begin to navigate this sordid, tawdry existence, Meta-cognition has been on my mind a bit lately. Meta-cognition is that function of the Mind of the learner which knows itself as a knowing self. Operational awareness, and practical manipulation, of this capacity is a crucial accomplishment for successful learning: Knowing that you can learn--are learning--is essential to actually learning. It is not a trivial competence.

Which reminded me of Howard Gardner's "varieties" of intelligence.

Gardner has derived a non-hierarchical taxonomy by which he characterizes what we now regard often as mere "talents" as actually consisting of discrete kinds of intelligence, including complex strategic capabilities and abilities for successfully inhabiting and navigating the life-world. That is what ANY 'intelligence' is: a collection of skills, abilities, predispositions, and competences which enable us to survive and thrive in our worlds.

Gardner started with seven, and has since expanded it to eight, and is allegedly weighing data for one or two more. The Original Seven were:

• Literary/textual,
• Mathematico-deductive,
• Kinesthetic,
• Plastic/spatial ('artistic/sculptural'),
• Musical,
• Meditative/contemplative, and
• Personally interactive.

He added 'naturalistic,' later.

Gardner theorized that in everyone, there were latent capacities for operating in any of these universes--that we all had some of all those capacities--but that in all of us, one predominated.

In me it is the literal/textual. I have little mathematico-deductive (linear) aptitude; I dont think that way. I was never an accomplished athlete, but I could perform in almost any physical activity I wanted to learn. I fenced, surfed, skied, played tennis and racquetball, along with the basic three American "Ball-sports." I am no kinda artist, but I sing pretty not badly, for being untrained. I am reflective, but not meditative; and I know how to work a room pretty good,.

That each "kind" of intelligence indeed creates its own life world becomes totally clearly when one interacts with others whose skills (and this is where we get back to meta-cognition) the person is intimately aware of possessing and learning from. I was a sort of academic coach for some guys on the LSU track team in the late 80s, and I had a chance to talk about learning with their bodies with Olympic-class athletes, and I can assure you, they know the world on VERY different terms than does a middle-aged profesor. You know someone who has "musical" intelligence if that person ALWAYS has song or a tune in their heads or on their fingers. And THEY know the world in uniquely "musical ways."

We 'privilege' the literary/textual (the domain of metaphor, interestingly) and the mathematico-deductive because those are the two facets upon which commerce and business depend. School caters to those, because school serves to sort, first, and then to train workers for fodder for the Elite machinery. The others kinds are often regarded as extraneous or expendable by the CorpoRats and paper-pushers, acceptable only as adjuncts which might turn a marginal profit someday, somewhere.

How "Marxist-like" In Belief In "Democracy" Are We Murkins, Really??

Cunt-Hair Clancy Thomas: Impeach, Indict, Imprison, Impale? DILLIGAF?

Clarence ("Cunt-hair Clancy") Thomas has been lately prominent in the news in consequence of the revelations that his wife is now and has for several years been in the pay of lobbying and business interests which had business before the Court. He and his "mentor" and mouth-piece/puppeteer, Antonin ("Uncle Vafanculo") Scalia (who tails around his own trail of sticky, viscous, criminal slime from his excta-curricular associations with the Busheviks) have been active participants and propaganda centerpieces in Right-wing conferences, workshops, and other events of highly partisan and ideological nature. This is purest Tihadist shit, not your average Federalist Society corruption.

All of which suggests that Ol' Curly Clarence has overstepped the normal bounds of judicial temperance and gone over to the "darker" side. And some of this has been noticed by various Congresscritters, in particular the vocal and voluble Rep. Anthony Weiner (D.-NY), who is making early, gentle noises about perhaps, just maybe, POSSIBLY holding "C-h Clancy" to the judicial standards which apply to the REST of the judiciary. (Oh, NO, you gasp! I know. His temerity stunned me too.)

Now, (Yr'Ob'd'tC's'p't) didn't just lately topple off the turnip truck, so he KNOWS it's NAGAHAPUN but, in any system in which the "Rule of Law" actually was a meaningful utterance, every decision in which Clancy ("Short & Curly") Thomas has been part of a 5-4 majority opinion, at LEAST since Bush V. Gore, should be vacated and the case re-argued withOUT being ol' Cunt-Hair being permitted to vote again.

But recusal is, for me, to mild a remedy for corruption THIS concentrated, this corrosive, this contemptible. I want MORE. I want the "dream team" of the (mocha) President and the (beige) AG to get together, using all the resources that, for instance Karl Rove would have marshalled and, using ALL the power of the State, drive tht lurking, lurching, dour, dreary dunce from the Bench, entirely.

Impeachment must begin in the HoR, which is (conveniently) recently fallen back into the hands of Cunt-hair Clancy's natural constituency, the conservotard/fucktard/Wackloon right, to whom Ol' Curly's feculent spouse has sold her services--all unnoticed, apparently--for at LEAST the last decade. So it is extremely UNlikely that impeachment proceedings will begin anytime soon.

So this is where the "Justice" department should enter the picture, by bringing CRIMINAL proceedings against the drooling, leering dunce. Neither O'Bama nor Holder need feel the least hesitance to prosecute the "black" justice. They owe him NOTHING in consideration of their shared rcial heritage. Cunt-hair Clancy was ONLY chosen for his position by GHWBush as a calculated insult to the memory of Thurgood Marshall and to the social activists who regarded Marshall's seat as a talisman. It was as though Poppy Bush thought: "Well, these skeevy Negroes demand a Black Justice? Okay. Here's Cunt-hair Clancy, the dumbest, meanest, most self-loathing, lowest, shittiest crappiest fucking Oreo/jurist in the whole GOP. Suck on THIS, Jesse Fucking Jackson."

So there is NO reason for the "first Black President" or his "First BLack" Attorney General to cut the Cunt-hair any slack. Indict him. Then run him the fuck outta town.

To repeat: Every decision in which Clancy Cunt-hair has been in the majority SHOULD be vacated and re-heard, after Curly Clarence has been arrested, indicted, convicted, imprisoned and most importantly REPLACED.

Little did we know, and less could we then imagine, standing hopefully on the brink of change, that by "doing something," what you meant was strengthening and extending it, not once but already twice.

Haha. I guess the joke's on us, pretty good. huh? Haha.

O'Bama's Last Chance With Me: Indict "Cunt-hair" Clarence Thomas

To me, there is now, finally, a way for O'Bama to redeem his bona fides with the Left, and that is to hound Justice Clancy "Cunt-Hair on a Can Lid" Thomas OFF the Court.

Then appoint even a CorpoRat/Centrist like Kagan, and break the grip of the Opus Deists.

He's the only one who could; and there is ammunition, if not for impeachment, then for indictment for high, judicial misdemeanors.

A "White" president couldn't move to impeach or indict "Pubes-On-The-Can-Lid" Clarence, no matter WHAT he'd done.

And Clancy already played the lynching card at his confirmation; so there is no doubt he'd play it again if he were attacked for his crimes and misdemeanors.

But the "first BLACK President" could move a criminal indictment through the Justice Department (impeachment would have to start in the GOPuke House). There is plenty of suggestion, at least, of serious improprieties if not out-right crimes involving conflicts of interest, financial shenanigans involving his wife and her political activities, and his 'availability' to provide advice to interests with causes which would appear before him on the Court. Ol' "Cunt-hair" Clancy is DEEEEEEPLY corrupt.

So, "Si, se puedes!"

This Would Be a "Shaggy Fart" Story.

My elder sister, whose sense of humor is usually dry, albeit a bit prudish, sent this. It's funny:

When I bought my Blackberry I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and ev ery other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do toot a lot."

There is of course, the other side of the coin, which is that, overwhelmingly (in my 15 years teaching in university), students come there looking for nothing resembling 'education,' but rather (only!) to have their prejudices ratified and their tickets to the middle-class stamped.

It is extremely difficult, unto impossible, to stress--to impress-- upon them that they are not at the University to GET an education; they are there to learn how to MAKE their education.

School doesn't--is not SUPPOSED to--teach you WHAT to know.
School IS supposed to teach you how to LEARN what you NEED to know.

Did O'Bama's New Jobs Czar Boost GE Profits By Off-Shoring USer Jobs?

I "understand" at a certain level that this is, after all, what I've accused it of being for 30 years: A kabuki performance. Still, you'd wish they were still at least trying a LITTLE bit to disguise it. Or is this primitive level of performance enough to "satisfy" the current demands of th audience for "political theater?"

Immelt, the chairman and chief executive of General Electric Co. tapped (--without any apparent irony at all~~W) by President Barack Obama as his next top outside economic adviser, will be asked to guide the White House as it attempts to (appear to care about actually doing anything to~~) jump-start lackluster job creation and spur a muddled recovery.

Immelt's firm stands as Exhibit A of a successful and profitable corporate America standing at the forefront of the recovery. It also represents the archetypal company that's (taken its successes from the hides of itw workers while~~W) hoarding cash, sending jobs overseas, relying on taxpayer bailouts and paying less taxes than envisioned.

The move is the latest salvo in the White House's continued aggressive and very public outreach ("outreach" = obvious cave-in, capitulation to, and fellation of ~~W)to corporate America. Earlier this month, Obama appointed a top (notoriously CorpoRat/corrupt Chicago fixer and former~~W) executive at JPMorgan Chase as his chief of staff, and this week he granted a longtime wish of business interests by (ass-fucking the environment, consumers, and the rest of the citizenry by~~W) promising to review federal regulations perceived as onerous.

Immelt's appointment raises fresh questions (they're not fucking fresh to me~~W) about Obama's courtship and future policy proposals. (People like Immelt who have spoken for~~W) Firms like GE say good jobs will come from lower taxes and less regulation. Immelt told analysts Friday that he'll focus on tax policy and regulation, among other topics.

"A clear problem in the recovery is that it's been a much stronger recovery for business in terms of their profit and earnings than for those folks who work and earn a living in the U.S.," said Gary Burtless, a former Labor Department economist and now a fellow at the Brookings Institution, a research and policy organization in Washington.

Burtless said Immelt was likely hired to reassure corporate America. Political opponents have cast the Obama administration as unfriendly to business interests, and the administration has had difficulty rebutting that theme. Immelt's hiring was yet another step in that direction.

Here's some pretty good evidence that society needs to pay A LOT more attention to those whom it permits and/or encourages to breed. These people are just plain, fucking shit-house-rat crazy.

So it appears to be turning out that a LOT of stuff that was cobbled into the "health care" bill last year has ALWAYS been of "dubious" legality, efficacy or practicability, absences, lacks, and failings of which Congress were/MUST HAVE BEEN-- or at least certainly SHOULD HAVE BEEN--informed, given their intimacy with the laws and their construction.

Writing in a piece called "What We Should Have Known All Along about Health Reform CJR today, Trudy Lieberman (one of several STELLAR talents over there; Ryan Chittum is another) synthesizes reports from sources which seem to indicate the legal trouble in which the "health care" bill now finds itself was indeed forecast. And that advice which opposed these measures was ignored.

Given the efforts to obscure these uncomfortable facts, it would appear to any observer with more acuity than a scallop that SOMEBODY indeed know, and did their best to disguise those facts until the measure was already signed into law.

And, in addition, now that the fog has cleared somewhat, much the worst that anyone critical of the measure predicted would eventuate seems destined indeed to come to pass: higher prices, less coverage, more interference, all of it.

The Shamwowers always said they were gonna hafta revisit this bucket of warm spit. Promoting reheated, tepid GOPuke policies as 'reform, and claiming thereby the mantle of FDR was a base and dishonorable tactic. Serves 'em right.

The Tea-baggers: The Party Of Narcissus

Absent from the next edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM V, 2011) will be the diagnosis of "Narcissistic Personality Disorder." This has occasioned some conflicts among the communities of practitioners and academics in that particular region of the mental health field.

Which is too bad, because NPD pretty perfectly encapsulates the mass psychoses which seem exclusively to motivate the deluded followers of Palin, the yobs on "Fox News" their faithful acolytes, and the rest of the grifters who have taken over the GOP.

Tell me this doesn't sound EXACTLY like EVERY T-hadist you ever encountered:

• Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
• Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
• Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions).
• Rarely acknowledges mistakes and/or imperfections
• Requires excessive admiration
• Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
• Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
• Lacks empathy: is unwilling or unable to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.
• Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
• Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitude.

Really! Exactly! And in DSM IV, you needed only to match any four 'symptoms' to the patient to have a diagnosis. Most of the T-hadists I ever encountered, and those most prominently displayed on TV, present with the whole, complete array of 'em.

What's the difference between a "luminaria" and a "farolito"?


Burning things is a big part of the solstice festivities in lotsa places. If you happen to live in or near south Louisiana, take a tour up (or down) the River Road Xmas Eve and watch the bonfires on the levee.

Every year over one hundred 30 foot plus tall bonfire structures are built of wood, firecrackers, and occasionally bamboo along the Mississippi River levee near the town of Lutcher, Louisiana. These bonfires are laced with kerosene or lighter fluid, then all are ignited simultaneously at 7 p.m. US Central Standard Time to welcome the arrival of Papa Noel on Christmas Eve.

The bonfires have been explained as long ago before the Levee's were built, to help friends of the family find the inlets or slips coming off the river to the homes of those they wanted to visit on Christmas Eve. But more likely a good way to encourage the children to help keep the inlet clear of the continuous build-up of washed up debris and driftwood.

Today, each family or street of families comes together and starts building usually the Thanksgiving break from school. They have limits now as to size and construction due to mishaps in the past. But Christmas Eve if its not a “Cajun Snowstorm” is enjoyed with a bonfire, pot of gumbo, fireworks, and a lawn-chair. All are welcome to join the merriment, now even special sternwheelers, paddleboats, or riverboats offer bonfire cruises down the Mississippi River.

It is a Christmas Eve tradition, unless it rains, then it is promptly changed to a New Year's Eve tradition. You will always see the displayed pirogue with Papa Noel being pulled by his special alligators, lead by Alphonse.

It's 1984 and The Boss has out a KILLER new album: "Born In The USA." It goes platinum, plus. One of the charts is called "My Home Town." In it there's a lyric I want you to ponder, seeing as how it was written in 1984, over 25 years ago: "The foreman says these jobs are going, boys, and they ain't coming back." Not to your home town...

Fast forward to 2010, and pundit/critics like Thom Hartmann are touting a new orthodoxy to reclaim "our country" from the plutocrats, oligarchs, aristos, and their minions in the political and business classes. The key is to somehow 'return manufacturing/jobs' to the economy. Hartmann and others have a variety of schemes to accomplish this, but it seems to me that these pretty uniformly overlook, or simply ASSUME to have solved, a principle dilemma of the "we'll just rebuild" argument.

It is this: You're gonna need A LOT of MONEY to build and re-build the infrastructure which has gone to rust and ruin over the past 30 years. There is nothing left of the previous structures; they've been stripped to the walls. You'd have to start over again from scratch. You'd have to bring it up to speed, too: high-speed rail, super-diesels, mass trans, energy efficiency, everything ...But that is gonna cost a shit-pot of shekels; it's a beeeg investment.

And we already know the Gummint cannot do it; it's hamstrung by corporate interests which are still busily extracting every possible cent from the existing chaos, and so doesn't want to; so Gummint CANNOT invest the necessary resources.

And the corpoRats don't wanna rebuild ANYTHING. It wouldn't be a good investment. We're a "down-market" anymore. We have been hollowed out, and no it's on to the next apparatus for the corpoRat otherfuckers. They need "us" less and less as a market; they're just about done with "us."

TSA Gangstas -- "TSA Gangstas"

The TSA ground "security" and gate personnel are the reason I'll not soon likely take any flights. I think the "inspectors" are selected from Mickey D's rejects, for stupidity, arrogance, tactlessness, and belligerence. They seem actively to despise the travelers, and to enjoy the harassments they visit upon us. They have, to an individual, NEVER been further from home than the transportation terminae they infest.

12-Year Old Inventor Makes Homeless Shelter From Trash

This is pretty great, but not his first success.

12-year-old Max Wallack stole the show at Design Squad’s Trash to Treasure contest with his “Home Dome.” The contest asked kids to repurpose trash into practical inventions.

The dome provides shelter for the homeless and is made from plastic, wire, packing peanuts, and flargstin. Pretty much, trash.

The trash-plex looks like a Mongolian yurt, and let Max walk away with $10,000 and a Dell laptop. He also got a trip to Boston out of it. But Max had this to say, “I don’t really care about the money. I care about helping people.”

The Yes Men are at it again! And this team they have teamed up with Rain Forest Action Network (RAN) and Amazon Watch to go head to head with Corporate Giant, Chevron.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the Yes Men, they are a duo of activists who use pranks and humor to draw attention to the atrocities done by large corporations against those who, too often, can't fight back.

They are infamous for taking on Exxon Mobile, BP and Dow Chemical, and now they have set their sights on Chevron, who recently spend a great deal in order to finance an expensive PR campaign entitled "We Agree."

The We Agree Campaign can best be surmised as a means with which to con consumers into believing that Chevron has the publics' best interest in mind. But Slogans like "Oil Companies should support the communities they're a part of" stand in stark contrast to the fact that have yet to address their role in refusing to clean up the toxic pollution it left in the Ecuadorean Amazon. RAN reports that " the 18 billion gallons of toxic oil waste polluting Ecuador’s rainforest could lead to as many as 10,000 Ecuadoreans dying of cancer by 2080."
