Probably you already know that Mothers' Day was not invented to make a profit for Penney's or Wal-Mart, but was actually founded out of respect for the mothers of the children slaughtered as soldiers in the Civil war. Julia Ward Howe wrote a poem about it. Robert Greenwald has made a short film. My mother is deceased, and her sons never felt the mortal pang of battle. But I still offer this in her honor...
